What Should Be Included In A Basic Landscape Maintenance Package?

Same Peterson

When it comes to landscape maintenance, you can really go as big and extensive as you want. If you have the budget to do so, you can hire someone to trim your shrubs monthly, pull weeds every week, and make sure there is never a single dandelion in your yard. But for most people, this level of extensive maintenance is not really necessary. A basic landscaping maintenance package is enough, and it is certainly more friendly to your budget. But what should be included in a basic landscape maintenance package?

Lawn Mowing

Mowing the lawn is the most basic and essential of maintenance services. And it is not just to keep the lawn looking tidy. Regular mowing keeps the lawn healthy, and a healthy lawn is less likely to grow weeds.

Weed Treatments

If you have your landscaping company treat for weeds on a regular basis, they won't have to do such extensive spraying every time. At each appointment, they'll just spray whatever weeds they see. They may also spread a pre-emergent weed kill, which kills weeds before they have a chance to sprout. This can be done in both your lawn and your garden beds.

Pesticide Sprays

You may not think pests are a problem in your yard, but all it takes is one grub infestation, and you'll really be wishing you took a preventative approach to pest control. An important part of a basic landscaping maintenance plan is having an insecticide spread over your yard and garden beds on a regular basis.

Fertilization

No lawn or garden should have to be fertilized on a weekly or even a monthly basis, but fertilizing once or twice a year will keep things green and healthy. Make sure the basic landscaping plan you sign up for includes occasional fertilization, preferably using a fertilizer that's specifically formulated for lawns, and another one that's specifically formulated for flowers and garden plants.

Seasonal Shrub Trimming

If you do have any shrubs or bushes in your yard, you'll want to have them trimmed as a part of your regular maintenance plan. Some need to be trimmed in the spring, others in the summer, and others in the fall, so your landscaping team will trim each as they find it appropriate.

As long as a basic landscaping maintenance plan includes the services above, it should be adequate for keeping your yard looking presentable and healthy. Most landscaping teams will allow you to add on additional services, as needed, too.
