Learn About Proper Sprinkler Care

If you have a sprinkler system in your yard, then you should make sure you check for problems regularly. You can check for different types of problems when the sprinklers are on and when they aren't. You should make sure to learn more about troubleshooting the various systems in and around your house. Here are things you should know about the sprinkler system as a homeowner:

The timer can malfunction

Keep an eye on your sprinkler system after you have set it and make sure the sprinklers are coming on. You don't want there to be a malfunction within the system that is causing the sprinklers to not come on, and you do not catch it until you noticed the grass was turning brown. Watching for an issue like this can prevent damage to the grass and the other affected foliage that isn't getting watered properly.

The pipes can break

You want to be sure you pay attention to the yard and be on the lookout for any puddles of water during periods when it hasn't rained. If there is an area of water that shouldn't be there, then this can be indicative of a broken pipe. If you have a broken pipe, you need to have it fixed right away because it can cause your water bill to go up while wasting water. It can lead to other problems as well if the water reaches the area near your home or other structures.

The sprinkler heads can break

When your sprinklers aren't on, you may find that you have a sprinkler head that isn't going back down to ground level when the sprinklers are off. With the sprinkler head staying in the upright position, it poses a tripping risk to those walking in the area, and it is exposed in a way that can cause it to be broken. Also, pay attention to the sprinklers when they are on and make sure all of them are coming up and that they are spraying the areas they are supposed to.

If you have any problems with any of your sprinkler heads, then you should have them fixed quickly as well. Different issues with the sprinkler heads can often cause other issues to happen. For example, if one of them isn't watering correctly, then the grass and foliage in its path won't be getting the water it needs to survive.
