Tree Care: An Introductory Guide

Caring For Trees The Way You Should

Same Peterson

You want to keep the trees around your property in great shape. This takes only a minimal amount of care, but that care is important. If you ignore any of the things that you should be doing or having done to your trees, then you might end up turning nice, fruitful trees into problems and even hazards. Here are some of the areas that you are going to need to pay attention to when it comes to your trees in order to keep them as positive contributing parts of your landscape:

Make sure your trees get a proper amount of water

Some trees do better than others when it comes to making it through dry spells. However, you don't want to push your luck, and you will find they stay healthier if you keep them watered regularly throughout the year. If you are in a drought and need to prioritize your water use, try to continue watering your trees or they can die and end up becoming dangerous. Keep in mind drought areas are also often areas with higher chances of fires, and dead trees can go up quickly and increase the fire dangers on your own property. If you've turned your sprinklers off, come up with a schedule for watering the trees as much as you can.

Keep the trees pruned

You want to have someone come to prune the trees as often as needed to keep them in great shape. There are more reasons than you might realize when it comes to the benefits of proper tree pruning. When a tree is pruned, the excessive branches will be removed before they become problematic. This prevents the branches from crowding each other. Pruning also prevents trees from becoming so thick that they block out any sunlight needed by other things in your yard that happen to fall in their shade.

Have troublesome trees removed

If you end up with an unwanted tree in the yard, have it removed instead of keeping it on your property. Also, if you have a tree that's diseased or infested, then you should seriously consider having it removed before it leads to problems with the other trees in your yard that are currently still in good health. Any trees that are significantly leaning or that continue to pose a risk to things like your roof or power lines should also be removed.
