Be Careful Of Ticks

Same Peterson

Ticks are horrible pests to deal with for a lot of reasons. For one thing, they can spread illnesses such as Lyme disease or rocky mountain spotted fever, just to name a couple. They burrow their heads into your skin to consume your blood, and removing them can be difficult. Also, many times, they will be so tiny that you may not know you have a tick on you, and the longer they are attached to you, the more concerned you need to be about the transmission of illnesses. Ticks can attach themselves to people and pets, and both are susceptible to the illnesses they transmit. Here are things you want to know about ticks to help decrease the ticks in your yard.

Keep on top of the weed control

Ticks can stay on the weeds in your yard. Then, when a person or a pet brushes past those weeds, the tick will go from the weeds to the person or pet. This means that by making sure you have the weeds removed regularly, you will be taking away one of the more common ways that ticks get picked up by a person and decrease the likeliness of someone in your household falling ill due to a tick-transmitted illness.

Check clothing after walking around wooded areas

If you have been in any wooded areas, including those on your own property, then you want to make sure you check your clothing for ticks before getting in the car or going in the house. Also, once you are in the house, it is a good idea to check your body if it is tick season. Ticks tend to like to go to the warmer areas of a person's body, so you want to make sure you pay attention to places like behind your ears and in the folds of your body, such as near your armpits and behind your knees. Also, if your pets have been running around in these areas, then you want to make sure you check them.

Make sure you keep the trees trimmed

Ticks can also hang out on the leaves and branches of the trees in your yard, so try not to brush against them when you are out in your yard. You want to make sure you have someone come out to trim your trees regularly as well. Having your trees trimmed will ensure that the trees don't grow out of control and end up blocking more of the areas where you will walk by or be hanging out in when you are in the yard.
