3 Ways To Remove A Stump

Same Peterson

When you have a tree cut down in your yard, you are going to be left with a stump. You don't want to leave that stump sitting in your yard because it can attract pests and vermin, and it can look really unattractive. If you have a stump to get rid of, there are several ways that you can do it.

Dig It Out

One of the things that you can do is dig the stump out manually. This is going to be a good option for a small or medium-sized stump. You are going to have to put some elbow grease into doing this, so the larger the stump, the harder you are going to have to work to get it out. You are going to need to have several kinds of digging and cutting tools because you are going to have to cut away the roots as you dig down. Your goal is to dig down under the stump and its root ball to get down to the taproot. When you reach the taproot, you want to cut it with an axe or something similar. Then it's time to haul the stump out of the ground. You may want to use a winch to add some additional force or use a big pickup truck to pull it out.

Chemicals

Another option is to use various kinds of chemicals to burn the stump out. This method can take some time, so you are going to need to be patient. With these chemicals, you will drill several holes all around the stump and then pour the chemicals into those holes. You may also need to add some water in with the chemicals. After adding the chemicals, you want to get the ground all around the stump wet and cover it all with a tarp. You will need to remove the tarp occasionally and to perform this process all over again.

Grind It Out

You can also rent a stump grinder or hire a company to come and grind it for you. A stump grinder is a large tool that works kind of like a chainsaw, only with grinding teeth instead of cutting teeth. Those teeth will chew away at the stump and turn it into sawdust. Usually, within a few hours, the stump will be gone.

If you have a tree that has been cut down in your yard, then you are going to be stuck with a stump in your yard. There are several ways that you can get rid of that stump,  with stump grinding being the most efficient and least labor-intensive.
